Year 6 Open Evening

By Gemma Davies,

Dear Year 6 Parents and Carers,

As we start a new academic year at St Edmund’s, I thought it might be good to share with you what St Edmund’s has to offer and a few of the highlights from the previous year.

St Edmund’s has an extremely dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure the very best academic outcomes for all students. They also provide excellent support and encouragement for students to secure the destinations most appropriate beyond Year 11.

Here at St Edmund’s we nurture the potential of all members of our school family, whether they are Catholics, from any other faith, or no faith. The school has a strong pastoral system and offers students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. We also offer a wide range of sporting opportunities and after school clubs. The skills and talents of everyone in our community are valued and celebrated and, this September we are really excited to be welcoming 120 new Year 7 students from 32 primary schools across Dover, Deal, Sandwich and Folkestone.

Good transition is something we pride ourselves on at St Edmund’s, and what visitors always find striking about our school is the family atmosphere. Our older students support the younger students and younger students have been helping to support our new Year 7s who have just joined our school family. At the end of March the English Department ran a fantastic trip to The Globe Theatre and Year 6 pupils from St Mary’s Catholic School in Deal were invited to join us. You can find all the latest school news on our Facebook page – St Edmund’s Catholic School, Dover or on our Twitter account.

At this time of year, I imagine you will be thinking about the next steps for your child. We would love the opportunity to meet you and your family and show you around our school. Our next Open Evening is on Thursday 5th October from 5pm until 8pm, we will also have Open Mornings starting at 9.15am on Wednesday 11th, 12th, 13th, 16th and 17th October. I hope to see you there.

Kind Regards,

Mike Wilson

Headteacher

Welcome Year 7!

By Lucy Rees,

It has been wonderful to welcome our new Year 7 students who are settling in extremely well.  The students have already made lots of new friends and have been enjoying exciting lessons.  “It’s been a brilliant first week” said Jess, “I’ve loved it!”.  Some of the students are talking about auditioning for Aladdin.  There are more photographs on our Facebook page.
