Dear Year 5 Parents and Carers,
As we approach the end of another successful year at St Edmund’s, I thought it might be good to share with you some of the highlights from our year.
For several years now we have been the best performing non-selective school in Dover, Deal and Sandwich. At the moment our thoughts are with our GCSE students who are currently sitting their exams. Last year 52% of our students achieved 5 A*-C Grades at GCSE and 56% of students achieved an A*-C Grade in Maths and English. We wish all our students well in this year’s exams.
However, St Edmund’s is about much more than academic success. Here at St Edmund’s we nurture the potential of all members of our school family, whether they are Catholics, or from any other faith, or no faith. The school has a strong pastoral system and offers students the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme. We also offer a wide range of sporting opportunities and after school clubs. The skills and talents of everyone in our community are valued and celebrated and this September we are really excited to be welcoming 120 new Year 7 students from 32 primary schools across Dover, Deal, Sandwich and Folkestone.
Good transition is something we pride ourselves on at St Edmund’s, and what visitors always find striking about our school is the family atmosphere. Older students support the younger students and younger students have been helping to support Year 6 as they prepare to join our school family in September. At the end of March the English Department ran a fantastic trip to The Globe Theatre and Year 6 pupils from St Mary’s Catholic School in Deal were invited to join us. You can find all the latest school news on our Facebook page – St Edmund’s Catholic School, Dover.
At this time of year I imagine you will be thinking about what next for your child. We would love the opportunity to meet you and your family and show you around our school. Our next open evening is on Thursday 29th June from 5pm until 8pm. I hope to see you there.
